Firsts. Jan 22, 2014

I had quite a few firsts today.

I lost my first cow.

I met my first butcher.

I encountered after-death muscle twitches of a very large cow.

I witnessed the (forced) birth of my first calf.

I also smelled like afterbirth for the first time (well, maybe second time, technically).

Got peed on.

Carried my first calf.

Blow-dried a calf.

I also got to hand-feed the calf, but I had already done that when I was a small boy.  =)

Now we just gotta keep him alive since he's about 5-6 weeks premature.  He can't stand yet.  He can't really bottle-feed yet, and we're feeding him colostrum via syringe down the throat.

Pretty cool, though.  I hope he makes it.  We need to think of a name!  Thoughts?
