Letters from Henrietta: Day 2
Dear Mom,
Sorry I wasn't near the fence when you and your sisters were mooing this afternoon; the other farmer had just fed us so we had to go eat to make him happy.
I'm really wet. I'm not cold though because I've been eating most of the day. I miss you more today than I did yesterday! The rain is keeping the flies off our backs, but they just moved to our stomachs. We are trying to keep them off by rolling around in the dirt and kicking it up on ourselves. It works a little, but we are mostly just getting muddy.
One of the steers started a slip-and-slide on the south end of the feedlot. He's only charging three licks from the mineral tub to try it out! Do you think it would be OK for me to try it?
Rowdy and Hope forgot to try the ladder last night and the farmer took it away this morning. Speaking of the farmer, he gave us a straw bale to lie on this afternoon. Rowdy and Loretta ate it, right away.
I see that he gave you and your sisters a bale too, but you just looked at it and kept mooing. If you don't want it, we'd be happy to take it off your hooves?
When the farmer came to give us the straw, he seemed to have a hard time staying on his feet. He slipped and fell a little while carrying the straw bale. I tried to laugh, but all that came out was a fart and a cough.
I tried kicking that gate. It seem pretty solid. The fence near the water trough is a little short, though! If I can find a good inner tube to put in the water trough, I might be able to vault off that and get over the fence?
I miss you! I hope you are doing well over there.
Love,
Henrietta
P.S. We are all glad that Rowdy's mother lost her voice. She might be the shortest of your siblings, but she is the loudest!
